| I`m in the market for a truck. It would tow a 7000 lb. trailer most of the time but would also be taken off-road from time to time. Has anyone had a Cummins Dodge 5-speed off the highway. I test drove one today and my initial impression was that axle wrap-up on this torquey beast would likely be a big problem. Any problems with these new engines yet? How does the rest of the truck hold up?

Good question on an old post. Anyone want to weigh in on what problems they have ran into?
The Cummins is a torque engine. The drive train will show the weak points. Broken gears, drive shaft u-joints you name it if its weak this engine will break it. Old trucks use to have torque arms for axle wrap issues. I'd be tempted to see what modern newer trucks with this set up have done. I don't own one nor have had to deal with the issues. We have a fleet of the cummins 24 valves and they are good engines. Up-dates were mainly fuel related. The electric lift pump goes bad and then the main pump fails. Expensive!!! Ours were under warranty repair. |
