i bet superlift or 4wheelparts could get you some shocks i bet superlift would have them since they have lifts for the gov dodges id use a 1tons shocks since most the gov dodges are 5/4 tons 60 rear and 44 front. my dads has motorcraft shocks that it came with when we bought it il bet any 3/4 1ton shocks will fit now that i think about it.

Well... if money is no object, then you could get some really nice bypass shocks from King or Fox. :)

If you can afford about $800, you can get yourself a great set of adjustable, reservoir shocks from Walker Evans (I run these and LOVE them - you can see them at: http://www.4x4review.com/discussions2/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=4653).

If money is tight, then get a decent set of MONOTUBE shocks from any reputable manufacturer like Superlift, Rancho, etc. - most are made by the same companies anyhow (Tenneco, etc.).

A few years ago, I did an article which outlines all of the different types of shocks, which you can see at: http://www.4x4review.com/feature/shock-genius.asp

hope that helps, Rick

Try it now, I fixed it. It was trying to put a period inside the link (doh!)

Also made by Tenneco... ;)

Tenneco makes the following brands: Monroe, Walker, Rancho, DynoMax, Clevite Elastomers, Gillet, Fonos, Fric-ROT, Kinetic, Thrush, DNX, etc...

okay guys, I appreciate all the advice. you have helped me narrow it down to the Monroe Gas Magnum, and the Superlift Superride Shocks. Any opinions?

Superlift. I've not had a lot of good luck with Monroe over the years (but that was 10 years ago, so things have likely improved).

the nicer thing about monroe you can pick them up at the local autoparts and superlift you have to go to 4wheelparts or order them off the internet

okay, I recieved my shocks today, and Ive got a big question. they are stuck in the compressed position!!! and before you say, did you take the bands that keep it compresed off, yes I did. it takes force to pull it apart, but then it just gets stuck in that position. am I overlooking something or do these need returned?

Sorry Bluecollar - I overlooked this posting.

Any shock that is NOT a gas pressurized shock absorber will sit in one position even with the bands removed. You should be able to pull the shock piston out (wiht a great deal of force mind you), and it will then stay in that position. That is normal.

Now... if you have a gas pressurized shock and this is happening, then there is one of two issues going on: 1) The shock is just stuck a bit at the bottom of it's travel. Try hooking the end of the shock body to something sturdy (vise, tying to to a bumper, etc.), then put a large screwdriver through the eye on the piston-side of the shock. With a twisting mostion, give it a big honkin' heave-ho! and see if you can get the shock to jar loose.

2) If that doesn't work, then you have a busted shock / set of shocks. I've never seen or heard of this happening, but I have seen stranger things happen (like my wife obeying my requests, my children behaving and aliens landing in my front yard). :)

Hope that helps, Rick
