stuck in the mud yes - but not with the ATV. We were pulling out a swamped Ford Explorer. Pictures to come this evening!

Actually, it's winch rope (not cable), so you don't need anything hanging over the rope. they store zero energy, even at full (26,000 pounds) breaking strength.

What you're seeing is the top of my snorkel. Which came in quite handy on that trip.

man, i gotta get that kinda synthetic rope. will it brake faster then cable rubbing on rocks? how much weight will be saved from using that line compared to the line on my 12000 m m winch?

I'm really happy with Gourock's winch line (available at www.winchline.com). It's super tough, easy to handle, doesn't weight much at all and super strong.

We're going to write a comprehensive review of the rope on our site after we finish testing. So far though, you'd have to pry my synthetic rope out of my cold dead fingers.

As far as rocks go, there's a protective sleeve you can put over it that will sit on the rock while the rope slides through it. Not unlike cable though, you do need to take care of it. After 2 days of wheelin' in the goo, I got home and rinsed the winch line out with a hose and it's now shiny yellow again (BTW, it comes in several colors too).

3/8" Viking winchline at 100' in length will run you about $200. http://winchline.com/mcart/index.cgi?ID=177459310&PID=IT38&code=13

Worth every penny IMHO.

yea but it's not that fun to clean after mud. rick is so anal when the explore got out. i had to go make sure the rope didn't touch the ground because it would get muddy. O YEAH MUD SUCKS BY THE WAY well at least the clean up part.
