| I have a 99 Ford F250 super duty powerstroke with on the fly 4 wheel drive. When I turn the switch to engage the 4 wheel drive nothing happens. The 4x4 light does not even come on. The light does come on on initial start up so I know the bulb is OK. There was no indication of any problem prior to this. It seems that there is no electrical power to it or perhaps a bad switch. Any Ideas? |

Bob,
My 2001 Expedition was doing the same thing. Take it to the dealer and have them replace your 4x4 sensor. The way Ford does their 4x4 these days it's on a vacuum system and sometimes the sensors that tell the 4x4 to kick in go faulty. After they switched mine I was good to go.

Bob,
I see that one person advised you to have the sensor changed. Did this fix the problem? I have a '99 F-350 with the same exact problem.

I had to replace the motor that engages the transfer case. It now engages the 4 wheel drive but now, the front hubs do not engage automatically all the time. I have to get out and turn them by hand.

IT THE TRUCK HAS MANUAL LOCKING HUBS THEY HAVE TO BE LOCKED TO SHIFT ON THE FLY. THE FRONT AXLE HAS TO BE TURNING IN SINK WITH THE REAR AXLE TO SHIFT AND NOT TEAR UP ANY GEARS. IF THE TRUCK HAS AUTOMATIC LOCKING HUBS THEN YOU DO NOT REALY HAVE SHIFT ON THE FLY. THAT MEANS THE FRONT AXLE DOES NOT TURN UNLESS THE TRANSFER CASE IS ENGUAGED TO MAKE THE AUTOMATIC HUBS LOCK
