After replacing a fuse for the interior lights, my 98 Explorer will not disengage from the 4-wheel drive setting. If I pull the fuse, it will operate in normal 2-wheel drive. Is anyone familiar with what might be causing this to happen?

Do the 4x4 High and 4x4 Lo lights flash on your dash? Mine do and I'm trying to find out why. If you get any info please let me know. ------------ Railstoc at 6/30/2003 12:48:00 PM

I also have a 1998 Ford Explorer with the lights, (high/ low) flashing at intervals even when I am driving it. I replaced the actuator motor on the transfer case and it started then. Any help out there?

Never messed with a Ford push button 4x4 drive but on a GM system it sometimes helps to pull fuse for TCCM (Transfer Case Control Module) for several minutes to clear its memory and reset it. Myself I would never own anybodys "push and pray" 4x4 drive system for reasons such as this.

Hey SnoMan, I just pulled all the fuses that had any relation to the Generic Module, and my 4X4 is working great now. Thanks for the tip. Jody in Virginia

Good deal. I thought it might help. The actuator has a encoder in it for position feed back and when you change it you are supposed to clear/reset the controller for it so it loads new position data.
