| I bought this 98 Ranger new, and have had no problems with it. However, the last two years I have heard a slight grinding sound when it is in 4 wheel drive. This year I tried to go onto the beach and althought the light came on telling me that I was in 4 wheel drive it did not engage. I have run the truck on the beach 30/40 times each summer season. I have never done anytning as far as service is concernd. Anybody had simmillar problems, and what was the outcome? |

Bob, I have a 98 Ranger 4x4 too. If you have to take the middle part of the dash off, like if you put an aftermarket radio in or something like that, sometimes that little clip that holds the connector for the four wheel dive knob will get worn out. Put a tie on it and that might help. If that doesn't work and your 4 low doesn't work try checking the fuse in the main fuse panel.
