| My son purchased a 1996 F250 Heavy Duty truck. There was no owner's manual in the vehicle. Can someone please respond with the recommended way to switch into 4wd hi. Thanks |

Hi Oto - does that '96 have a push-button unit on the dash, or are there levers on the floor?

engage the trans into the n postion, then shift the lever to the
4hi postion. next put your trans to drive.
now you are set up for snow wheeling or mudding.
note: when you go back to 2hi put the veh in reverse for several feet to take the pressure off your front drive line & u- joints
before you go into drive. |

Yup, primetime nailed it.
Another tip... if it's still difficult to get into 4Hi or 4Lo, you can let the truck roll forward or backward at 1-3 mph (put it in drive, let it roll, then pop into neutral) while pulling on the 4WD lever.
You should have automatic locking hubs, so like PrimeTime said, after you've put the truck back into 2Hi, you'll need to roll the truck backwards about 10 feet to make sure the front hubs disengage.

| The "trick" is use all the time and it works well for me is to stop truck in neutral, hold brakes, place in park , do not release brakes and then shift firmly for lo to hi or hi to lo. I must have done it 30 or 40 times last week plowing snow during storms here. Normally I rarely use low range but this snow was really tuff and like plowing cement and sand at times. |

Sweet, I'll have to give that a try! sometimes, when I need to do a front-dig, it's a bear getting rear 4x4 into neutral and front 4x4 into low. Great tip! |

If you get hung up between ranges doing this, keep foot on brake and shift into gear briefly and back to park. I know i fussed with mine over the years with my 2000 K3500 until I found this system that works 99% of the time for me. |
