Has anyone taken, or would anyone take, their Honda CRV onto the beach? I've got a 5-speed 2001 AWD model and would like to.

Are any precautions required to prevent sand from grinding up the brakes, etc?

your brakes? thats the least of your concerns. brakes can be washed out. there are many other places sand goes, and trust me... it goes anywhere it wants. sand can get into your t-case, differentials, and pretty much anywhere else it wants. my suggestion to you is to just cruise the beach and not go wheelin there. and stay away from sand dunes where the sand is soft.

Just air down to about 10 psi so you'll float over the sand- instead of digging in. ------------

I got my CRV stuck in a creek a month ago. I wouldn't trust the realtime-4 wheel as far as I could throw it. But on the beach, keep away from the dunes, drop the psi, and rinse it out asap and you'll be fine. ------------ James Roberts at 8/9/2002 8:16:14 AM

I live at Carolina Beach, NC. I have seen several Honda CRV's Stuck in the sand, once the transfer cases heat up the real time 4wd stops working, even letting out air in the tires, you will get it stuck. ------------ Dano Sanchez at 10/17/2003 4:03:28 PM

I've got 2002 honda CRV, I when sand driving in the dune. I did Ok, I guess it all up to your driving skill. The sand was soft, When you try walking with your foot you will just sink in. Remember To air down to 16psi and when taking off go slow or you dig your self in. ------------ Chris Howey at 1/23/2004 3:12:55 AM
