I just bought a 99 Nissan Pathfinder, the manual states that I should have the 4 wheel console in 2H setting while driving in inner city conditions or dry smooth roads. I don't know if I should leave it in "N" or 2H, any advice out there? If I leave it in "N" gear, is my front axle engaged? I'm a 4-wheel newbie, help!

Your Pathfinder front hub is permanent that means it's always engaged whether you're in 2wd or 4wd. Leave the transfer case in 2H when do normal driving. You can use 4H up to 50 mph in slippery surface like snow or loose gravle roads but don't leave on drive pavement for too long. The gear binding may damage it.

N setting is for when you want to go into 4-LO. Read the the back of the visor, it explains pretty well. Or go to http://www.4x4parts.com Pathfinder discussion forum, there are other 4x4 experts there that can offer help.
