how do you tell a ford 9in from the rest.would a 78 LTD be a possible

a ford 9" has no diff cover on the back side, the bolts are on the front of the axle, i know that some one (webby or sno man) will come up with a better way to tell 'cuz there are other rear ends that look like a 9" but aren't.

a 78 ltd with a big block might but with a 302 it's doubtfull, and yes even stock from the factory there are some exceptions to the rule.

when in doubt use duct tape

Ford still used a 9 inch in a E100 van in 83 with a 302. I know first hand because I parted one out with a friend many years ago.
