Nice Kawi. What mods do you have on it?
I've been into 4-wheeling for a while now (Jeepin' type stuff), but have been thinking about getting a quad too. Any recommendations?

Jason
My quads are platforms for atv aftermarket performance products. You can visit my web site and see what products I endorse and run on my quads.
www.atvproducttests.com
I used to do alot of jeeping also, but I found it very expensive compared to what you can do to these quads. If I were you I would narrow down what kind of riding you want to do. Then pick a quad that has dealer support close enough too you, to be of service if needed. I find that every brand of quad out there today offers great features. If I were to purchase another quad, it would be a Bombardier Outlander 800 XT, just for the real world features that it offers ( Which is just my personal opinion). I will be doing a review on this quad and also a Bombardier Outlander 400 XT very soon. I will post part of my review here and on my web site if that will help you some.
I beleive that 4X4 Review has a long term test going on right now on another fine quad, the King Quad. In my opinion has a very nice ride with a fine power delivery.
I hope that was of some help to you.

Interesting... You know, the more I think about this, I think I can come to one conclusion.
As with any new hobby, you're not sure of the specifics that will interest you the most. When I first started Jeepin', I thought I would be into mudding, but that quickly changed to trail riding, and then to rock crawling. My Jeep has changed much through the years because of this.
That said, I wonder if maybe a good "all-around" mid-level / entry-level quad would be the best bet. Something not overly expensive so that I can ride for several months and then figure out what I really enjoy the most.
That leaves me with two questions.
1) Do you think I'm right in my assumption?
2) If so, what would be a relatively inexpensive quad that I could get into and figure this thing out? I'd like to get something truley reliable because I think if I got something that required a lot of maintenance and 'break-fix' time, I'd probably loose interest in a truly interesting sport.

Ok Jason, what atv dealers do you have in your area. And to say which dealer has the best reputation for taking care of their customers ?
Lets go from there. |

| We have a medium size Honda, Suzuki, Yamaha dealer (3-in-one) and another Honda dealer (sells cars, motorcycles, ATV's etc.) I think there's a Kawi dealer about 45 minutes away, but can't find them in the phone book. |

I would say to visit them before you spend your hard earned money. See how they treat you and check out their service department. After all buying anything is easy, it's after the sale that you have to worry about. So a fair purchase price with a quad you can live with and also get serviced when needed.
So we go from there. There are lots to choose from. |

Jason, I was just reading your comments on how you approached 4-wheeling with your jeep. It sounds to me like you will automatically do the same thing with your quad that you did to your jeep ( like I did to mine).
So in my opinion you should skip the entry level quad and focus in on a mid to full size 4X4 type of quad that will meet your immediate needs and those further down the road.
Therefore if you are looking at a good entry level quad with a fair price take a close look at the Kawasaki BF 650. Reliable, reasonably priced, fast, and easy to maintain. Now that is just my opinion, and there are lots of other machines to choose from.
Good luck. Anything I can do to help, please ask.

Is that a solid rear axle, or an IFS rear axle?
I guess more importantly, the question should be about solid or IFS axles in general. However, i'll ask that question in the "Quads - General Questions" group.
thanks,

Solid rear axle Jason. Commonly qoted as a "SRA". When you get into the 2 different suspensions, you will receive different rides from both. SRA, more of a rougher ride compared to the others with full suspensions. Plus's of a SRA are you tend to have better cornering with fewer parts to break.
Like I said still personal preference in what you prefer. |
