lr3 i will trow away & put a samari in its place.
i think the rest are all ok w/ out box 4x4 performance. esp. the rubicon.
samaris are so light nibble & geared pretty well for tight places where i dont think any of the other will be able to go even the rubicon.
best one up there is prob. the rubicon. enough said.
fun factor & look at me is the almighty fj40.
the ones i love & have had two w/ major up grades were the blazers.
next would be the old broncos awsome veh. i would love to own fleet of those things. (my wife is looking for one to restore. let me know if you know anybody giving one away fairly cheep.) i cant one cheap!!!
scout are really good & cheap beaters.
h1s, i would sell it to buy my fleet of broncos. :)

Funny you should mention the LR3 and the Samurai in the same sentance. We actually had the Sami on the list and we pulled it off.
Our thoughts were that this was a list of stock rigs rather than project rigs. We discussed it and agreed that the Sami is a great project rig. They are cheap to come by, easy to build and there is a pretty good list of aftermarket parts avaialble for them. Unfortunately - out of the box - they arent much. With the right gearing, a bit of a lift and some wheels and tires you can climb a wall with one but out of the box there just isnt enough gearing to get the tiny engine output to the ground.
In the end we had to ask ourselves - if someone handed you the keys to one out of the showroom and told you to cross a mountain range which one would you take.
I like your way of thinking though. |

i had a stk 88.5 sammi w/ only two mods on it. mud tires & door handle to coat hanger fix. lol
it went more placed then my one ton blazer w/ a454 & geared & locked.
the only problem i hated w/ the sammi was the horn. on rough terrain hands will always slip off & hit the horn pad honking all the way down. lol |

Actually it was the horn flaw that caused us to bump it from the list ;-)

One point of interest that it seems no one knows....
The ONLY factory built 4x4 certified to travel up and down a 100 percent grade is:
