Here is my new 1972 Chevy project. Was a C20. Now has a Dana 60 front and Eaton rear, both are 4.56 gears. Rear only came in either 4.56 or 5.13 and a Detroit locker was standard equipment in all. I put my motor from Black Betty in it, it has a beefed up THM400 and a divorced NP205 T-Case rotated flat, with equal length driveshafts. Has a 40 gallon fuel tank under the custom flat bed with an access panel from the top. Custom completely boxed front bumper with stainless steel expanded mesh, and has a Sidewinder winch. Has many other unique features. Its a VERY Alaskan rig. It started its offroad life as a moose hunting buggy (truggy), and is now moving on to being a mud bogging, rock crawling, hill climbing beast. Stay tuned as I do more work to it....

Dude! That is ridiculous!!!
I really like the '72 Chevy Trucks with the tall hoods.
So how many rigs do you have now? You have the red tow truck, the black Chevy and now this one? Awesome!
BTW, what's with the funky cutouts in the front fender wells? Is that to clear the tires when the suspension compresses?
Nice!

| Haha, the fenders were cut like that when I got it. I would never deface a 72 in that fasion. I have already located some real nice fenders that I can cut properly. This thing was rolling on 48s and the guy used a combo Sawzall and sledge hammer technique for the fenders.... Right now I have the Crew Cab, this rig, an 84 stepside chevy (the girl's), the 56 DeSoto, and an86 Trans Am with TPI. I ditched the black truck, since I annhilated the frame and body. And I ditched the blazer, I traded it for the TA a Ruger M77 .338 with a Leupold Vari x III and a Baby Desert Eagle .40 cal. Was a good deal on my part.....hehe. |

Nice that you have some replacement fenders. I really like that color combination - tan and black, kind of like a Guiness beer!
I had no idea that you jacked up your black truck so badly?!?! What happened? Have any pictures of the carnage?

| As much as I like the color, I camo'd it already. But it is more than likely going to end up all black again. I love Krylon Semi Gloss, or Ultra Flat Black....hehe. This rig will probably be named Black Betty II. Although there has already been several nicknames for it by the Denali Offroad guys... Like Blue Ox, it was blue when I got it. And Cock Master. Dont ask, I cannot even remember where it got that name...lol. Some of our members are real special. lol. Maybe we can have a contest to name it.... So long as one of the options is Black Betty II.....lol. |

Black Betty II - love it! Are you going to emblazen the side of the hood with her name? Cock master - that's funny! Rick |

| Took it out for a run yesterday. Went pretty good for a shake down run. Seems that my distributor actually touches the firewall. So when the body twists on th eframe in off camber situations, it causes my distributor to rotate, thus knocking my timing off. So I am goin to have to modify my firewall in some fashion. Then, I have some issue with my highbeam footswitch, shouldnt be too bad to fix. And the bushing in the driver side front shackle to frame mount is bad. So that needs to be replaced. All of that coupled with the fact that my fuel guage is no longer working made for an interested but ok ride. lol. |

I saw a dude use a small, rectangualr cake pan to help create the clearance he needed for his distributor. He cut a whole in the firewall, and then mounted the cake pan into it (frenched)... it actually looked pretty sweet - he used a stainless steel cake pan like this...

You could probably put some caulk behind it to create a good seal, and you could even paint it to match. It's a cheap fix.
