When you find out could you let me know, I have been asking the same question. The problem with the tires is the stock meats have a load rating of E, and the largest replacement tire I found was the same model/brand that is on the truck currently except it's a LT265 size, slightly wider and taller. I have also heard there will be problems with anti-lock brake systems.

I do not know if there have been any problems, but I have seen quite a few hds with 285 bfgs and it looks like maybe the torsion bars have been tightened up because they sit more level. The only bad thing I have heard about the HDs is they have a vibration when towing or something. I have only heard 1 person say that, and that was a while ago, so the problem may be corrected now, if it even existed.

I'm planning on doing the same with my 2500hd. I put air bags in the back because I haul a big camper in the summer. Without the camper I run around with about 5-10lbs of air in the bag that lifts the truck about 1" to 1 1/2"...makes the ride a little rougher but not bad. I'm planning to adjust (not 'crank') the torsion bars to lift the front end about 1.5" and then get a wheel alignment done (I heard the 2001 truck has modified the alignment adjustment access so your first wheel alignment is regular price not expensive as in my '96). My only question was whether I should install spacers for the rubber stoppers so that they sit in the same position prior to the lift. When my 245's wear out I will replace with 265's....I think 285's are pushing it when loaded (ie. camper and boat). The overall effect will help me out in the deep snow. ------------ david at 12/10/2001 11:04:17 PM

Gentlemen:

Here is the answer.

DO NOT put 285's on the stock 6.5" wheels. Check the BFG website, I think they recommend wheels at least 7.5" wide for 285's.

I have 285's on my truck with 16x8 American Racing Outlaw II's. All I did was crank up the torsion bars one inch, and cut the front inner fender wells and bottom of the airdam. The truck looks nice and drives fine. There is some slight rubbing on the inner fender wells, usually when I'm backing up and turning hard right at the same time. The D rating on the 285's gives you as much load capacity as the E rating on the 245's. And you don't have to run 80psi, which makes the ride better.

Just the facts.

You don't have to run 80 psi in your 245's. Up to 80 is for the load that they can handle. The MFG sticker on your door says 55 in front and 80 in rear. If you don't regularly haul a heavy load then run 55 in the rear also. When I picked up my 2500HD at the Dealer it had 45 front and rear. Makes a big difference in the ride and they are by no means underinflated.

Has anyone tried the 265's on the factory wheels yet. I know they are not as large as the 285's but they should be a welcome visual improvement on the truck, also if you stick with the same brand / make all the Loads are the same. I would think the 265's would mount to the factory wheels without a problem. If anyone has mounted either the 265s or 285s and has a pic I would love to see how it looks.

Anyone want to buy my stock 245's only 1500 miles on them?
