i have an 81 toy 4x4 and i lost the plate on top of the front spring that holds the u-bolts in place, is this plate needed or do i not need it?

If it's what I think you're talking about, then yes, you need it. Otherwise you won't have anything for your uBolts to bolt to. Can you add a picture so that we can see what you're talking about? Thanks, Rick

it's the plate on top with the rubber stopper on it, has no holes.

Oh... that's the bumpstop bracket. One might argue that you don't HAVE to have it, but if you plan on doing any off-roading, you really should have it. This keeps the axle from travelling too far upward and contacting steering components, the frame, etc. Rick
