Moving on to other things....

92 Jeep Cherokee Sport with regular locks, not power.

I've just noticed that I can open my driver's side door by just putting in my key tip in the lock and turning the key.  The key does not need to be fully inserted into the lock and as long as the key tip is small enough to go part way in, it will work.  Replace or repair....

In addition when it's really cold outside I can barely lock the driver's door by using the rocker lock.  When it's warm outside I have no problem.  If I lubricated the locks it would it make a difference?  Can you lubricate locks?  Also the back door locks are not used that much and are hard to use (cold or hot).  The rockers are hard to move back and forth.   Replace or repair....

Finally does anyone know of a good source that you can get interior parts?  One of my visors is totally falling apart and I would like to replace it.  Any suggestions, would be greatly appreciated.

Thx,

Hobbes

Hey Hobbes - I would try lubricating the locks first, with something like WD40. If you go to Autozone or your favorite auto part store, ask the clerk for a door lock lubricator. It's essentially a small can of WD40 like substance, with a special applicator tip.

My guess is that the tumblers inside your door lock are stuck in just the right position (there are 5 or so small pins inside the lock, with springs underneath them). They can get mud, dirt, etc. inside and lock into the "open" position.

Spray that lubricant in there, then run your key in and out of the door lock twenty or so times. This should break things loose.

If that doesn't work, you'll probably need to replace the door lock all together, which is a bit of a PITA as the inside door panel needs to come off.

As far as them being stubborn when it's cold, it's probably that the locking arms (long rods that attach the the lock mechanism) are in need of cleaning and lubrication. Also a PITA as the inside door panel has to come off.

Anyhow, give that a shot and let me know if that works.

Best of luck

Rick
