I have a 1997 Chevy K 1500 pickup. It came from the factory with 265/75/16 Goodyear RT/S tires on 16 X 7 wheels. I would like to go to 285/75/16 tires on 16 X 8 wheels. I am doing this mainly for the looks. I do not plan to go off road. I am concered with the clearance. I have heard that you can crank up the torsion bars. I have also heard that if you do you need to reline the front end. If anyone has done this or knows if it can be done and how I would appreciate the info. Also if anyone has a suggestion on a brand of tire that would give a good smooth quiet ride i'm all ears.

Dave I have a 94 z71 with 285 75 /16 on it with 16x 8 rims. I don't have a lift on it or didn't turn up the torsion bars. They fit on the truck with out hitting when turning. But if you do a little off roading they will hit under your fender welds. Even when you go into a parking lot to fast it will hit not enough clearenc. I'v had mine on for 2 yrs I need to put a little lift on mine. BFG AT are a great tire to buy not noise and they last a long time going on my second set over 60,000 miles on first set and over 40,000 on second and still half the threads left.

------------ Dave, dont crank up the torsion bars. the ride will be rougher and you will have to get an alignment, its not really worth it.

Dave. I had a 98 with 285 BFG AT KO's on it...looked very good, never rubbed at all. Wondering how big I can go on my 03 now. No worries with that setup, it looks beefy ------------ TDOG at 1/21/2003 1:52:59 AM
