Took my Durango to the dealership because check engine light was coming on. Was told that the gas cap wasn't tight enough and that I had to turn until I heard at least 2 clicks... WTF?!?!?
Is this guy pulling my leg, or have vehicles advanced far enough to know if a gas cap is loose?

Richard,
That`s a tough one. The biggest lift kit that I know of is the Trail Master 5". At best you can get 32" tires if you run a narrow rim. If you run a REALLY narrow rim you might be able to get 33`s, but you would probably have to do a body lift too or do some fender hacking. I have some phone calls into SkyJacker, but I know that Rancho, SuperLift and Dick Cepek does not make one any bigger than a 3" or 4" lift. As I find out more, I`ll let you know.
Sorry I couldn`t be anymore help than that, maybe someone else knows.
Thanks,

Angel,
Your right... unfortunately the 2500 suspension is completely different. However, the closest lift to what you are looking for is a Superlift 5" kit. This kit comes with front locating arms, front coils, front box kit, track bar brackets, rear leafs (or add-a-leaf and rear block), 4 shocks (superlift style), all selling for around $600 ($899 for full leaf kit) at your local Dick Cepek shop. I would go with the add-a-leaf and block as Supelifts springs (leafs) aren`t all that great.
Don`t get me wrong, they`re not bad, but there is better out there.
I hope all of this helps.
Good luck and let me know what you end up doing.
Best regards,
Rick W.

Steve,
Although I`ve never done what you are going to do, I would suspect that you will need to do steering modification. Another, and maybe a better route is to install a 6", Stage 2 lift kit from Dick Cepek and then a 1" body lift. You should be able to clear 38" tires that way.
Maybe someone else has input... anyone? Bueller?
Regards,
Rick.

Try smittybilt. They`re supposed to be very good quality and from the pictures I`ve seen they are very attractive brushguards. Also Grizzly makes some pretty ones, but I don`t know about the quality. Probably depends on if you`re getting chrome or black because sometimes chrome will tend to peel if not properly cared for. A friend of mine has a black grizzly on his explorer and it is very nice. He`s had no problems with it.

Umm, I think Pro Comp makes a 6" lift. go to www.performanceproducts.com and order a dodge catalog. Don`t worry they`re free. If Pro Comp does have a 6" dakota lift, it should be in there. I hope that helps.

Hi Debbie,
What motor do you have in your Dodge? I`ve heard of a recall for the 360 that had to do something with the head gaskets, but can`t remember what year. You may want to ask your dealer about this.

Actually you need angled axle shims 4-6 degrees between the axle pad and leaf spring ! You will still have a little vibration because of the T-case cannot be adjusted or angled w/o affecting
either driveline! For more info. contact DeepInTheBushClub@juno.com ...hope it helps your rig !!Td. |

Check your speedo cable coming out of the firewall , as you follow it down you will see it go into a sensor with wires coming out of it. Either the sensor has gone bad or one of the two cables is...usually the cable from the sensor to the trans !

Find someone with a good tube bender (3-4"stock) and have them "custom made" !! The other stuff is weak junk only for looks !
If you just want `the look` Dee Zee is fine...if you want protection...CUSTOM made..you get what you pay for !!! Td. |

for some reason the older dakotas just dont have the popularity of the fords and chevys. I guess not too many people want to lift them so the manufacturers dont make lifts for them since the cost would be high and they wouldnt sell too many of them

Ive seen some new style dakotas with 32 x 11,5 without any lift. I would say a 3 inch body lift should give you room for 33s or you could just run the 31 x 12.5. that would be wider and you wont need to change gears or get a lift.Rob |

Richard,
I just had a Tuff Country 5.5" lift installed on my `99 Dakota Club Cab and it easily fits 33" tires. I may even be able to squeeze 35" in there with some tweeking. The only other manufacturer to offer a lift kit is Rancho`s 3" kit. Trailmaster is also coming out with a kit. I have an install article on my site with costs, etc. if you want to check it out. it is : (www.coltron.com/renpia/Dakotapage.html) Good luck. |

The other guy is right. They somtimes seperate and I've had chunks of my tire come off when just driving on pavement round town. They look amazing, though. They don't clean themself in the mud and they are basically Interco's answer to an all-terain. Try a SSR TSL or one of the better tires in the Swamper series.

i have a 98 4x4 1500 ram.. it came with 225/75/16 from factory.. steel chrome well 16x8.. i mounted four new 265/75/16 the truck look much better and sits 2" higher.. the holes between the tire and fender got smaller but the truck sits higher.. So far i had no problems with the change.. except my trip meter is a bit off.. as expected.. so it looks like you get worse fuel economy..but i still fill up at the same times so i know it didn't change. and the miles roll on slower.. lots of clearance.. next time i will go with 285/75/16 that should put it up another 1". And what i noticed at first.. the truck lost a bit of punch when i slam on the gas.. Because the gear ratio changed. anyway..i'm happy with the vhange over all..
