Hey all - I have an 02 Ram 1500 4X4 and I think we may have a bit of a wheel bearing problem. There was a grinding noise coming from the front so I pulled the wheel and I noticed that there was a lot of play in it. Basically the outer wheel flange (or whatever you call the part that holds the lug bolts) has about a quarter inch of play in it.
My guess is that the wheel bearings are shot. What I want to know is if anyone has ever replaced wheel bearings on the front of a Dodge Ram. Is it a major operation or is it easy. Is this something that is best left to a shop or even the dealer?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!!! |

| If you have one of those bastard hubless bearing designs on the front solid axle, they can be a pain to fix. Depending on your abilty, you might do better to farm it out and bite the bullet. It should not be bad though on a 02 and unless you have it lifted with big tires they should last longer. Dodge played that same cruel trick on owners in the 70's and brought it back again in the later 90's with new model trucks. Bad way to save a few buck building them. |
