Recently my door ajar light came on in my 2002 Explorer. I have tried using WD40 on all the doors and it has not fixed the problem. In addition to the door ajar light staying on, I can't use my power door lock on the drivers side door, the power switch for the side mirrors does not work anymore and my interior light will stay for a short time until I drive down the road. I would like to fix the problem without paying the $ the dealership would charge. Is there a sensor that can be replaced to fix the problem?

It is very likely in the door switch in jam.

yup - each of those symptoms means that the truck "thinks" the door is still open.

R&R the door switch and you should be good-to-go!

R&R the driver's side door switch? or is it possible that it is one of the other doors? My 2002 Explorer XLT is doing exactly the same thing. Interior lights at night are dangerous! Is the switch in the jam or the door?

I'm pretty sure that the switch is in the jam (the door opening, not the door itself).

Explorer Girl,

One of the Technical Service Bullitens below may cover this. This doesnt mean that the dealer will necessarily fix it for free but they may. If not - they can at least tell you what part you need and you can just get the right part replaced.

I had a similar problem on a ranger I used to own and as I remember it the problem was something other than the switch. It was some wierd junction or something to that effect.

Here is an article on TSBs...

TSB #8050 -- CONCERNS WITH THE INTERIOR DOME LIGHT AND / OR DOOR AJAR LIGHT REMAINING ON OR WILL GO ON / OFF INTERMITTENTLY. THIS MAY ALSO BE PRESENT WITH DRIVING OVER BUMPS AND / OR MAKING SHARP TURNS. *TT (NHTSA ID #612261, FEBRUARY 01 2000)

TSB #13824 -- SOME VEHICLES MAY EXHIBIT THE INTERIOR DOME LIGHT AND/OR DOOR ADJAR LIGHT REMAINING ON OR WILL GO ON/OFF INTERMITTENTLY. *MJS (NHTSA ID #612880, JANUARY 01 2000

[@#@] Does anyone know where we can report this problem, to ford in hopes ..(LMAO) that they will recall this as it does seem to be a safety hazard? Now as i drive on the freeway way the door ajar light not only comes on but beeps CONTINUOUSLY!!! My dome light also stays on as well so i have to turn it off manually. But if i turn it off manually then i cant seem my speedometer or odometer.

Can anyone give me any advice on how to fix this. I tried the WD-40 and thus far it hasnt worked.

You need to replace the switch in the door jam. It's a pretty easy fix with common hand tools.

Sure its the Door Lock Switch.. check the description of that site.. never mind the ad and the rest of the page.. that'd be the issue..
