Hello I am thinking about getting a 2000 land rover discovery but I keep reading that they brake down all the time and that there is alot off maintenance issues with the discoverys is this true or is the people writting the stuff not know what they are talking about. I really love those trucks but I don't want something that is nothing but problems.

Although I have no personal experience with them they are quite popular in Africa and Australian outback and repair places are few and far between there. I do not think they would use them there if they were really that troublesome.

The Defenders are really the more popular ones that are used in Africa and Australia, and are absolutely built for more rugged duty than the Disco's. I sent my Tech Editor (Jody Campbell) to Africa for 2-weeks to cover the Mile Marker Atlas Winch Shootout and he reported that you could't swing a dead cat without hitting a Defender. When asked about other models, he stated that they were few and far between. FYI - the Defenders are on their way back to the US!!! Right now there's an import issue because Land Rover didn't put air bags in it, but they've been quoted as saying that they are working towards that issue. YAHOO!! The D90's were an incredible machine and their reintroduction should help push the price of the used models back into "reality". Right now their over valued because of a supply and demand issue.
