I would like to know if any one has broken a samuari rear end with open diffs?

Does any one object to putting a lockright locker into a stock samuari rear axle?

Does any one have any clue to what gear ratio my samuari has?

3 very good quations Sammy 87!

1) Yes, I've heard of plenty of people breaking the axle shafts in Sammy's before. The vast majority of the time, it happened when the driver installed bigger, heavier tires on it - or, when they were really beating the snot out of their rig. If you combine both of those, it's a recipe for certain disaster.

2) A lunchbox locker is a cheap, easy-to-install alternative to those much-more-expensive upgrades, such as an OX locker, Detroit Locker, or ARB Air locker. I ran them for years in a V8 powered FJ40, running 33" tires without a single problem. It was only about 4 years ago that I upgraded the axles and am now running 35 and/or 37" tires.

3) As far as your Sammy's gear ratio, I have no clue. You can look for an ID tag on your axle to see if it tells you. If you can't find it, toss your rear axle up on a jack. Then rotate one rear tire a full revolution and count how many times the drive-shaft spins, then divide by two. This will give you the axle ratio.

Regards, Rick

If you leave tires reasonably stock in diameter, you should not have any axle problems even with a locker. It is those big over sized tires that will get you in trouble with it and a locker.

rick i might be wrong. but i think you are suppose to take the revolutions of the axle then times it by two not divide. i could be wrong though. but if you only spin one tire and it has open differintials then the drive shaft will spin twice as fast then when both tires are spinning. just like the tire goes twice as fast when it is the only tire spinning. as to the gear ratio in a the sammy i am pretty sure it is 5.18s. you will notice that the sammy will run close to 2500 rpms at like 50mph. suzuki did this so that the sammy could have half way decent pick up with the poor little 1.3 motor.

Yes it is times 2 not divide when you jack up one wheel and give it a full rotation and then multiply drive shaft revs times 2 to get gear ratio.
