I have a Black 94 Bronco 5.8 351 that I've dubbed The OJ Mobile. (people think it everytime they see it so I might as well say it!) One day a few weeks ago I couldn't start it. Thought it was the starter since it was old and rusty so I replaced it with a brand new one and replaced the solenoid. Still wouldn't start from the ignition. Thought I had a faulty solenoid so I got another one, still won't start. The only way I can start it is to jump the solenoid everytime. I had a continuity test done on the S wire and I was told there was no current in the wire. What else could it be? I even went to the local junkyard and followed that wire all the way to the end of the harness in a similar vehicle so I can find it easier in mine. I've been looking in my Haynes manual and I can't find the answers I'm looking for.
Could someone help me out? |

Probably the ignition switch went south on you.

| That seems to be a fairly common problem. I have seen that in at least 3 different Broncos of that style. Something maybe a dealership would know right off hand. IF they are cool at the service counter, they may slide ya tip or two. But the switch was the problem each of those 3 times. |

I found the s wire inside my truck and it was cut and a harness of some sort was wired to it, I'm assuming that it has some type of remote start system before. I tried bypassing it and reconnecting it thinking it may fix the problem. Still won't start. I replaced the ignition switch in the steering column, same result.
I even wired a push button switch to start it from the inside of the truck instead of popping the hood every time and it worked.....for 30 minutes. I went to doublecheck and the wire got hot then stopped working altogether. And now I'm back to jumping it at the solenoid again. Someone mentioned to me I should replace the ignition lock cylinder altogether. would that work? Or am I wasting my time? |
