| I have an '04 chevy 2500. From about 50-65 mph my truck vibrates. I put a new driveshaft in and it eliminated the problem temporarily. The vibration is back again. Could something be throwing the driveshaft out of balance or is it something else? |

I'm "ratman", now rwe. The tires are not out of balance. Just to make sure i had them balanced again. I also had put a new driveshaft in. No one knows what is wrong. I've had it at 2 local dealerships. They say its the driveshaft, but like i said i put a new one in. could it be the transmission or the rearend? |

| Yeah i am in indy. road force balancing is simple every tire can be balanced out to zeros is what they call it, but all tire have high and low spots in them as do all rims. so what road force balancing does is they put a load on the tire while they are balancing it and find where the high and low spots are in the tire as with the rim. they will mark the the spots and will then take the high spot in the tire and spin it to meet the low spot in the rim. it should make a difference. |

| I guess before i try the rfb, i should say this. It doesn't vibrate the whole time from 50-65mph. If I'm accelerating through that range and i let off the gas it stops. But as it slows down it gets to a point and it starts again, almost like its binding up somewhere. So I'm not sure this is a tire problem. |

Are you confident that it's a vibration, and not some extreme grinding or something? I might guess that it's the driveshaft... who made the driveshaft, and are you sure that they balanced it? |

| It could be grinding, I'm not sure. The guy that made my driveshaft is the best in town, supposedly. I called him after the fact and he said he'd check it out but I haven't had time to take it in. |

| I recently looked at the rear diff. and saw nothing wrong. Had it on jack stands and put it in gear and saw nothing. We then got it up to 55mph on jack stands and heard the noise and it seemed to come from the transfer case. Slip yoke moves a little when i got under and tried moving it. This is a reman. tcase that was put in less than 2 yrs ago to solve the problem. Could it be a bearing in the tcase? What would cause this? |

| UPDATE: After taking my truck to the shop to open up the tcase, they found it was the output shaft that was damaged, probably from a bent drive shaft i had. |

At this point, I would guess that your problems are a little bigger... here are a few things that come to mind: 1) A bent frame or bent cross member is throwing the t-case / axle out of alignment 2) The rear axle's pinion shaft is not at the correct angle with the t-case yolk - did you lift the vehicle and either not drop the t-cast or rotate the rear axle? 3) There's something wrong with how the transmission is mating to the t-case (bad input shaft, not fully bolted in, etc.) Rick |
