Write about myself, are you kidding, I would rather write a story about the benefits
of 4-wheeling with open diffs before I write one word about myself. This was my first
reaction when Rick told me he needed me to write my own Biography.
Well in a nutshell, I love 4-wheeling and Jeeps. I mean not like every one else you
meet who enjoys it on weekends, I mean I will sneak out 4 wheeling when ever I can,
take a dirt road rather than pavement, and truly believe that no one should have ever
built a vehicle without a transfer case. I am that one person on every trail that
thinks that no obstacle is too tough, no line is impossible, and with low enough
gearing, big enough tires, and two lockers a Jeep is unstoppable. Well, you all
know that my theory is far from correct, and it tends to put my Jeep on its lid quite
frequently. I used to mind rolling the Jeep, but now I just figure it will happen about
once a month or so and get used to it. (wanna ride shot gun?) I actually enjoy spending
hours upon hours in the shop working on the Jeep. It seems that my neighbors think that
someday I will actually be finished with the Jeep. When its finished, its for sale,
and another will take its place. Aside from my love of Jeeps and off-roading, I also
enjoy horseback riding, mountain biking, hiking, water and snow skiing, and just about
every other activity that requires being outdoors.
The off-road bug bit me when I was young; I grew up in Virginia and enjoyed a good
healthy dose of mud every so often. About five years ago the U.S. Air Force planted
me out west in Arizona and I soon realized that mud is a thing of the past for me,
but these big boulders sure can be a challenge in a 4x4. The one big difference that
I found between rock crawling and mudding is that at the end of the day the mud used
to wash off my vehicle, now the rocks leave permanent battle scars! I live for the
sound of cast iron and steel being drug over rock and the feeling you get when you are
flirting with yet another roll over.
I got my position as Technical Editor at 4x4review.com mostly because I love 4 wheel
drives and all the technical information about them. I can't remember today's date
but could tell you every single transfer case and transmission option ever offered
in a Jeep up until 1986. I am also the hardest on equipment of anyone on the staff,
I seem to have the knack for taking bulletproof parts and turning them into scrap
metal. I don't intentionally destroy things, but those pesky rocks tend to always
end up where I can't see them and my spotter (Rick) is looking at something else.
I have always thought if I could just figure out a way to turn 4 wheeling into a
job, I would be the perfectly content. Well this is the most content man you will
ever meet! If you are in the Tucson area or even somewhere nearby and want to go 4
wheeling drop me an
e-mail and lets hit the rocks!
