Ranger Dave's Where to Ride Guide
Are
you tired of riding the same old trails? Have you ever wanted to
just pack up and explore a new place? Maybe you live in the Midwest
and you’ve always wanted to explore the Western deserts, or
maybe you are tired of reading about legendary places like Moab,
Tincup and Red Rock and want to see them for yourself. If you are
the adventurous type you may just pack up and head there, but travel
is an expensive endeavor that requires planning and forethought
and you want to make the most of your trip.
There are many ways to learn about your destination. You can search
the Internet or ask friends. You can contact the local bureau of
tourism or chamber of commerce and have them send you brochures.
For popular destinations you can even buy books about the places
you want to see. Anyone who likes to travel has certainly done many
of these things. Wouldn’t it be great, though, if someone
had already made the trip and chronicled their experiences? Maybe
they were kind enough to make some maps, make note of places of
interest, talk to local lodging and eating establishments and take
some pictures or video of the best trails.
Well, Ranger Dave Ferris has done just that and he has chronicled
his experiences on a DVD entitled Ranger Dave’s Where to Ride
Guide Volume 1. This DVD is a must-see for anyone planning an off
road trip to the central Rocky Mountains. This DVD offers the viewer
detailed tours of:
- Moab, UT
- Richfield, UT (including Fillmore, Koosharem, Marysvale and
Red Rock)
- Buena Vista, CO (including St. Elmos, Tincup and Aspen)
Watching the Where to Ride Guide is a lot like getting advice from
a friend who knows the area like the back of his hand. Ranger Dave
provides tremendous detail about each trail including directions,
level of difficulty, things to see on each trail and words of caution.
You just don’t get this level of detail from the Internet
or brochures. All of this advice is delivered on your TV, while
you watch video footage of some of the most beautiful vistas in
the country. You also get to see interviews with local residents
and business owners who cater to visitors.
If you are planning a trip to any of these areas the DVD is worth
$24.95 (plus S&H) just because it will allow you to make the
most out of the limited time you have when you vacation.
But wait… There’s more!
Included on the DVD are extremely detailed and printable trail
maps of each of the areas discussed on the DVD. The PDF maps are
designed to be printed on 8.5 X 11 paper. These aren’t just
cheesy hand drawn maps that you might find on the Internet or extracts
from an off the shelf mapping program but highly detailed topographic
maps that you will definitely find very useful as you explore the
wilderness of the Rocky Mountains. The Where to Ride Guide DVD also
includes latitude, longitude and elevation of waypoints for some
of the trails described on the DVD so you can program your GPS unit.
For good measure, Ranger Dave also throws in documents that detail
local laws, contact information for restaurants, hotels, tour companies
and basically anyone else you may need to contact to make your trip
more enjoyable.
So if you are planning on heading to any of the places covered
by Ranger Dave’s Where to Ride Guide, do yourself a favor
and order the DVD. You wont regret it.
