db Performance Exhaust Jeep JK

 db Performance Exhaust

As most of you already know the 3.8 Liter V-6 engine in the Jeep JK is anemic and underpowered. While 205 H.P. and 240 lb/ft of torque sound impressive, once you start adding heavy duty parts to a 2-ton Jeep, it just doesn’t cut it and ‘more go’ is definitely needed.

Our 2007 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon 2-door edition already has the mandatory items: i.e. 4” lift, 35” tires, a winch and steel bumpers. Now the poor little V-6 just doesn’t feel like it has the cajones it once did. At the 2010 SEMA show the folks from Corsa Exhaust explained that they had just designed a full stainless exhaust system, in their db Performance Exhaust lineup (Part # #24411) for the 2007 and newer Jeep Wrangler JK. We were willing and they were able, and as they say, the rest is history.

While the stock exhaust does a decent job of expelling the spent fumes, the guys at Corsa found that a free flowing muffler and mandrel bent tubing could free up a few more ponies. The db Performance Exhaust series from Corsa is specifically designed for the JK. It features all stainless construction, a 63% increase in exhaust flow, a drop of 2.3 lbs over the stock system, and an increase of 7 h.p. and 5 lb/ft of torque. We have installed and tested Corsa exhaust systems in the past and the fit, finish and ease of installation have always amazed us. All Corsa systems are designed to not only increase power; but feature that great sound that Corsa is known for; the JK system is no different.  What sets the DB series of exhaust systems from Corsa is that they now offer a more affordable line of performance exhaust systems – perfect for those of you, like us, that have the purse strings pulled tight during a rocky economy.

Installation

db Performance ExhaustThe literature included with the Corsa DB kit is nearly perfect, full color photos, step by step instructions, and even a few tips to make the install easier. This could possibly go down in history as the quickest, easiest 4x4Review.com product installation we have ever done.  But, before you get started, take stock of the new performance exhaust parts and make sure nothing is missing.
db Performance ExhaustRemove the factory exhaust by loosening the 15 mm bolt at the front of the muffler. Remove both rubber muffler hangers and set aside for reuse. The instructions say to use a little soapy water on the rubber hangers to ease removal. We did and they slid right off. A few taps from a rubber mallet and we had the entire original exhaust system off in less than 5 minutes!
db Performance ExhaustInstalling the Corsa DB system is a simple matter of slipping the new muffler over the stock pipe, then installing the included clamp. Pay attention the clamp alignment as it needs to be lined up with the slits in the exhaust pipe. Do not tighten the clamp until the exhaust is hung back on the stock rubber hangers and everything is in place.
db Performance ExhaustNext install the down pipe on the output side of the muffler, once again align the clamp.  The polished stainless exhaust tip is slid over the end of the down tube and aligned with the Corsa logo up.
db Performance ExhaustOnce everything is lined up and in place, simply tighten the clamps for the muffler, down tube, the exhaust tip, and voila – one installed exhaust system. Even with a slight delay for a few photos the whole system went on in 15 minutes, in our driveway, with no lift.

The Verdict

db Performance ExhaustIt never fails… Whenever I install new product on any vehicle, it always leads to a few smashed knuckles, some fighting, and a few profanities thrown in for good measure. The db Performance system installed so smoothly and quickly, that I actually had to read the instructions again to make sure I didn’t miss something.

A few benefits that we realized after the install: we gained an inch of ground clearance under the muffler and lost 15” of total muffler length over stock. Performance was definitely noticeable throughout the RPM range, but the most noticeable power is felt right off idle. The Jeep just feels snappier and more willing to rev. It now has a nice deep throaty rumble at idle, and sounds great as the RPM’s increase.  As with all Corsa exhaust systems there is no annoying interior drone and only the people you pass will hear the difference. The all stainless construction looks great, and is sure to last the life of the Jeep. If you are in the market for aftermarket exhaust for your Jeep, Truck or SUV, check out the DB line from Corsa. It may be the last exhaust system you will ever need.
