As we close in on the final days of another SEMA show, 4x4Review’s tenth consecutive trip, it gives us great pleasure to report that the 2009 SEMA show has been a rousing success. It’s great to see that the aftermarket industry is still creating innovative new products and pushing the envelope in vehicle performance, even in today’s slow economic times. The people, products and excitement of SEMA are a great example of ingenuity and industriousness running at full speed in the automotive enthusiast market. Color, style and function, all contribute to one of the coolest gauge sets on the planet. Auto Meter introduced a new line of gauges with adjustable parameters that change colors when the upper or lower preset is reached. For example if your water temp reaches the upper limit of your preset, the entire gauge face will change colors indicating a problem. Also on display was the new Pro Comp pro digital dash with data acquisition. The Pro Comp digital dash features sealed mil-spec cannon plugs and shielded wiring to handle years of off-road abuse.

B&M, always a favorite of the high-performance and heavy duty application crowd, has come on strong in 2009 with the release of new heavy duty transmissions including:

  • Ford 5R55S for ’98 and up applications
  • GM 4L60E for ’96-97 LT and ‘98+ LS applications
  • GM 4L80E for ’93 and up
  • Chrysler A518 for ’93 – ’95 applications

Sparks were flying and metal was burning at the Miller booth. With live demonstrations of the hottest new products, such as the Spectrum 625 plasma cutter, Diversion 165 Tig welder and the Millermatic 211 with the new auto-set feature, the Miller welding booth was hot. Miller’s new line of welding and cutting equipment is so easy a cave man could use it. The auto-set feature on the Millermatic 211 takes all the guess work out of setting the machine up for your welding needs while the new Passport Plus portable welder features built in Co2 and a super durable go-anywhere case. A new line of fabrication tables feature a 3/8” thick top, super strong legs and ball bearing drawers. If you’re in the market for a custom painted, super cool, auto darkening helmet, Miller has you covered. The impressive set of new products shows that Miller offers something for everyone.

Wanna add some color and convenience to the dash of your new Jeep? Daystar introduced all new interior dash panels that add a convenient place to store all of your smaller items. Also for the Jeep crowd, new Hood Wranglers, a direct replacement flexible insert for JK hood latches that replaces the stock rubber insert. Another innovation from the polyurethane pros was a set of new adjustable oil and gas free bump-stops for a multitude of applications. Daystar also introduced shock absorbers for many of their popular lift and leveling kits.

GearWrench announced two new products at the 2009 SEMA show including an Indexing Ratcheting Wrench to provide users with access to bolts in tight spots and an Electronic Torque Wrench with Angle Measure to deliver torque measurement in ft-lbs & NMs as well as a degree measurement function. This Angle Measure function is ideal for applications requiring tightening to an angle beyond a specified torque.

Wilwood simplified building a complete braking system by integrating many functions into their new Combination Proportioning valve. Combining the brake junction box with an adjustable proportioning valve and brake light control switch, this one product merges many key functions into one simple product. This new proportioning valve fits in the factory location for many GM and Jeep applications. Wilwood also now offers a billet aluminum GM replacement caliper for the ever popular GM cast caliper used on many factory and custom applications. New this year from TransDapt is a line of black Slam Guard oil pans equipped with a 3/16” thick skidplate to protect your engines oiling system from impacts / punctures that could lead to catastrophic failure. The big change for 2009 was the addition of the color black to the already available chrome and silver color options to provide rugged pans with the “go” but not the “show” for off-road enthusiasts.

Bringing innovation to welding is the name of the game at Lincoln Electric. Two new welders on display for consumers were the 140C and 180C Power Migs. Packed with features and simple-to-use functions, these two welders will provide years of trouble free use. Another new product from Lincoln was the Magnum 100 spool gun – this newest product in the Lincoln line up is a little powerhouse and can run small diameter aluminum wire and lay down some gorgeous Tig welds (at least when the Lincoln guys run it).
